We were on a cruise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Pat had wanted to see New Zealand, but all she saw was the trip from the dock to the airport. She had complained of pins and needles in her leg. We went to the ships doctor who thoght she had a trapped nerve in her spine. We left the ship early missing New Zealand & Australia, we were to have spent her birthday at Ayres Rock instead she was in Hospital. Onboard ship Pat could not walk. In the space of 3 days she had gone from walking to incontinent and immobile. We had to fly back via Dubia, the trip was horrendous & I cannot begin to know how Pat felt, she was being sick all the time. In the hospital back home the doctors were still working on the theory of the trapped nerve. Then came the first shock, they diagnosed MS. We hugged each other & cried. There were several "Other " diagnosis to follow. LUPS LIKE disease was the last. It became obvious to everyone that the doctors had no idea. She was transferred to The Acute Neurological unit at Salford Royal. funnily enough this was were Pat did her training for nursing. They tried all the known treatments but she failed to respond to treatment. Her death certificate states the cause of death to be "PRESUMED Cerebral Vasculitis" We are all awaiting contact from the consultant the result of a post mortem. It has been several weeks & no result. How can someone who was fit and healthy, in 3 days be crippled and incontinent with no prior warning?
